Liam Peterson delivered on all possible expectations in his first collegiate start on Tuesday night.

Peterson got the nod for the mid-week start on Tuesday and struck out 7 North Florida batters over just 3 innings of work. He also allowed 1 hit and 1 walk during his relatively-short debut outing. The lone hit he allowed was an infield single.

His fastball hit 95 miles per hour and he showed off an impressive breaking ball throughout the outing as well.

Here’s video from his impressive start:

Peterson was a highly-thought-of prospect in the most recent high school recruiting class. There was a risk that he would be a high draft pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, but he instead chose to attend Florida and play college baseball.

Peterson exited the game with a 3-0 lead after 3 frames. Peterson is expected to be a staple of Florida’s weekend rotation this season. He got the start on Tuesday in-part because UF’s final 2 games of its opening-weekend series vs. St John’s were canceled. By pitching just 3 innings on Tuesday, he could pitch again this week on Saturday as the Gators take on Columbia in Gainesville.
