Chris Steele, the highly sought-after class of 2019 cornerback, has been cleared to play this fall.

The NCAA has reportedly granted Steele an immediate eligibility waiver to play for USC in the 2019 season. Undergraduate scholarship transfers have to sit out a year by rule, but with the waiver, Steele can play as a true freshman.

Steele originally signed with Florida and early enrolled (the program’s highest-rated signee in the class), but made national headlines transferring from the Gators after spring practice. It came out in the press that Steele did not like his room assignment and had requested to be moved, but was denied he would have to wait until after the spring semester. Steele was assigned to room with freshman QB Jalon Jones and fellow freshman DB Jaydon Hill. Jones, who has left the program, was accused of sexual battery by two women stemming from an incident that began in the dorm room shared with Steele. That alleged incident took place after Steele requested to be reassigned to a new dorm room. After Steele made clear his decision to transfer from UF was final, some of his former Gators teammates mocked and trolled him on Twitter.

The Trojans open their 2019 season on Aug. 31 against Fresno State.
