After serving as Kyle Trask’s No. 1 target last season, Van Jefferson has seamlessly made the transition to NFL receiver during his first professional training camp.

Leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, the buzz surrounding Jefferson’s potential on the field reached an all-time high after NFL scouts had the opportunity to break down the former Gators’ tape and evaluate him leading up to the NFL’s annual selection process.

That led to Jefferson being selected in the second round by the Los Angeles Rams, which under the guidance of head coach Sean McVay, has to be a dream landing spot for any offensive skill position player given the leadership and knowledge of the man running the franchise’s offense.

During his most recent media availability, McVay didn’t hide the fact that Jefferson has lived up to the hype thus far in training camp.

“He’s a really good football player. He’s continuing to do a great job of just learning every single day from Coach ‘Yarbs’ (Wide Receivers Eric Yarber), (Assistant Wide Receivers Coach) Zac Robinson,” McVay said of Jefferson. “And you can see, kind of like what we’ve talked about ever since we drafted him, he’s got a knack for the game. Football just makes sense to him.

“He’s got that pedigree, you know, when you look at the history of the success that his dad had as a player and now he’s coaching. And when you’re around Van, that’s what it feels like. You know, it feels like he came from that football pedigree and he sure is talented.”

If you were unaware, Jefferson’s father is former NFL receiver and current Jets receivers coach, Shawn Jefferson.

But it’s not just the coaching staff that’s been impressed with the rookie pass-catcher.

Check out what Rams receiver Cooper Kupp had to say about Jefferson after a few weeks of camp in Los Angeles.

“He’s done some incredible things. Everyone knows he’s an incredible route runner by this point,” Kupp said of Jefferson. “The other side of things, is just his understanding of the game, the questions he asked. You’re going to have questions. If you’re coming in from college, you’re going to have some. No one comes straight out of college and knows the NFL game. It is a different game.

“But, the questions he’s asking really lends itself to show how much he is grasping on to this thing. He’s not asking the 101 questions, he’s asking the 301 questions. Just early on to be able to be at that point is pretty impressive. I think he’s going to be an incredible football player and be able to play in this league. As long he keeps progressing the way that he has been, he’s going to be able to play in this league for a long time.”
