Report: Florida DT Caleb Brantley refused to settle battery case ahead of NFL Draft
As former Florida DT Caleb Brantley prepares for the NFL Draft this week, he’ll have looming battery charges hanging over his head.
After allegedly getting into a physical altercation with a female earlier this month, Brantley has reportedly refused an offer to settle the case before Thursday’s first round.
According to his attorney, Huntley Johnson, Brantley had a chance to reach a financial settlement with the accuser, but declined:
1/3 Attorney for DT Caleb Brantley was approached about a financial settlement today by attorneys for alleged victim in battery case …

(clarified) 2/3 Brantley said no to offer. He will not settle at all, even w/ NFL draft starting Thur, attorney Huntley Johnson said …

Lawyer Huntley Johnson said attorneys for alleged victim in Caleb Brantley case called w/ offer & said they would go to state attorney Thurs

Brantley’s refusal to settle could signal that the accuser’s story has been falsified, as a couple of different witnesses of the alleged assault seem to corroborate:
3/3 Also, bar owner said alleged woman victim "repeatedly" hit Brantley in chest/arms. Security guard said she punched Brantley in mouth

Security guard who witnessed Caleb Brantley incident said alleged victim was never unconscious and Brantley pushed her away. No punch

Without hearing what both sides have to say in court, it’s still too early to determine what exactly happened.
Now, NFL teams will have to decide whether they want to take a chance on Brantley or not, as it seems like the battery case won’t be going away any time soon.
