Thursday was a bad day for the defensive backfield in Gainesville as the Gators will reportedly lose another defensive back following the planned transfer of junior cornerback Chris Williamson. Previously, Florida announced that starting safety Marcell Harris would miss the 2017 season after tearing his ACL Wednesday.

It will be interesting to see how the Gators manage the roster in fall camp considering these two losses compound an already depleted secondary heading into the 2017 season. With Harris declared out for the year, Chauncey Gardner and the incoming DB recruits will be tasked with filling the void in the defensive backfield.

News of Williamson’s transfer was first reported by Nick De La Torre of Gator Country, citing multiple sources.

Williamson was a three-star signee in Florida’s 2015 recruiting class. Williamson made nine appearances last season, making one start for the Gators. He is a native of Gainesville.
