Scott Frost or Chip Kelly? Chip Kelly or Scott Frost?

That seems to be the debate in Gainesville right now, as the Florida Gators try to figure out who they want to pursue to replace former coach Jim McElwain.

Frost, the current UCF coach, was a member for Kelly’s staff at Oregon from 2009 to 2012, so he knows a thing or two about his former boss.

On Thursday, Frost discussed Kelly during his appearance on “Open Mike” on 96.9 FM The Game, saying any school that hires Kelly will be happy it did (via 247Sports):

Chip’s just a good football coach. I also think, you know when you’re in a vacuum in a really tough media market like Philly, I think he got a bad rap on a couple things he didn’t deserve. It started out really good there and didn’t end well, but that doesn’t take away from the fact out good of a football coach he is. Wherever Chip lands, they’re going to be lucky to have him.”

Though Frost and Kelly keep in touch, Frost said he’s not sure what his former boss is thinking as he draws interest from top programs:

You know, I don’t know,” Frost said. “Chip and I are real close, but he plays things close to the vest too. I know college football is going be better if Chip Kelly is back in it.”

It seems likely that either Frost or Kelly will land the Florida job, but which one gets the gig still remains to be seen.
