Billy Napier and the Florida Gators hammered the South Carolina Gamecocks 38-6 on Senior Night.

The Gators were firing on all cylinders Saturday night, including not allowing an offensive touchdown by the Gamecocks offense. South Carolina’s lone score came on a fake punt, touchdown pass.

Napier’s offense was led by quarterback Anthony Richardson, who combined for 3 touchdowns and 208 yards. Florida had 2 rushers over 100 yards in Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne, and as a team, the Gators rushed for over 300 yards.

The Swamp was a factor, too, as the Gamecocks committed 11 penalties for 82 yards. Florida’s defense forced 3 Gamecocks turnovers.

Following the game, Napier spoke with ESPN.

On how Florida rose to the challenge …

“We started really fast in the game. I’m really proud of the defense. We’ve played six quarters in a row here of shutout football. We gave up a fake punt today. I couldn’t be more proud of the ownership I’ve seen from the players. I really think we’re making progress just in who they are as people. I believe the football is better as a result of that. The leadership from our staff has been special. It’s been fun to watch.”

On the running game going for over 300 yards …

“Well, I think the quarterback has a lot to do with that. We do a great job up front. i can’t compliment those guys enough. A hat on a hat and the guys on the perimeter do a good job. When you rush the ball, every position group contributes to that. So, it’s a little bit of who we want to be. A little bit of in the past and we want to continue that.”

On Anthony Richardson’s best week of practice …

“I thought it translated great. The guy continues to grow. The physical stuff comes easy for him. It’s all about leadership. It’s about getting comfortable with a role and learning to have discipline. I couldn’t be more proud. He’s growing up. He’s 20 years old. It’s been a lot of fun to watch.”
