Kirby Smart told reporters Wednesday that they should check him into a psychiatric hospital if he ever truly thought the Bulldogs would finish last season – or this upcoming season – with a 7-5 record.

He was poking fun at a notion that the Bulldogs felt slighted heading into the 2022 season, with people saying the team would finish with an underwhelming record following their 2021 national title.

Obviously, that didn’t happen. The Bulldogs finished the year 15-0 are were challenged only once by Ohio State on their way to back-to-back titles.

The reporter’s exact question asked if Smart ever specifically told players last season that people expected the team to finish 7-5. It wasn’t direct, but he pretty much answered it with this response.

The Bulldogs certainly have few doubting them this year. People seem to have learned their lesson on that front. Georgia currently holds +222 odds to win the National Championship for a 3rd straight season in 2023. We’ll see if they can become the first squad to 3-peat since Minnesota from 1934-1936.

The Bulldogs kick off their march towards history on Saturday, Sept 2 against UT Martin.
