Carson Beck is entering the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

Beck had previously declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, but multiple reports on Thursday suggested the Georgia starting quarterback will instead focus on the portal and finding a new home at the college level. On3’s Pete Nakos first reported the news.

Beck was viewed as a top-5 quarterback in the draft class, but an injury to the UCL in his right elbow figured to complicate the pre-draft process. Beck underwent successful surgery on his elbow last month and, at the time, it was believed he would be able to throw again starting in the spring of 2025.

A 6-foot-4 senior from Jacksonville, Florida, Beck took over for Stetson Bennett in 2023 on the heels of consecutive national championships for Georgia and started 27 straight games for the Bulldogs. He went 24-1 as a starter but never made an appearance in a College Football Playoff game.

Beck was knocked out of Georgia’s win over Texas in the SEC title game and missed the team’s loss to Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinals last week.

He signed with Georgia as a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He sat for 3 years before ever starting a game. In 2023, Beck completed 72% of his throws for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns with just 6 interceptions. He piloted Georgia to a 12-0 regular season and an appearance in the SEC Championship Game, but a loss to Alabama kept the Dawgs out of the CFP.

Beck responded in the Orange Bowl with a 13-for-18, 203-yard, 2-touchdown performance in the Orange Bowl as the Bulldogs obliterated Florida State.

Entering the 2024 season, some thought Beck could be among the first quarterbacks taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. But he struggled to carry the momentum of his 2023 debut into 2024. Beck threw for just 160 yards in a 13-12 win over Kentucky on Sept. 14 and then threw 3 interceptions in a 7-point road loss to Alabama 2 weeks later. Over a 3-game span from Oct. 12 through Nov. 2, Beck was picked off 8 times. He was sacked 5 times in a 28-10 loss to Ole Miss on Nov. 9 and questions started to swirl about whether Georgia needed to make a change.

But Beck responded over the final 3 weeks of the regular season with excellent play. He threw for at least 297 yards in 3 straight games, compiled 11 touchdown passes without an interception, took just 3 sacks, and helped Georgia surge into the conference title game with 3 straight wins.

Beck finished the season with 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 picks while completing 64.7% of his passes. For his career, Beck has 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns against 20 interceptions. He also has 5 rushing scores.

He made 38 career appearances for the Bulldogs and will depart with 1 season of eligibility remaining.

The decision leaves the Bulldogs with Gunner Stockton as the obvious choice for next year’s starting quarterback. Stockton replaced Beck in the SEC title game and started in place of him against Notre Dame. Against the Irish, Stockton completed 20 of his 32 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown.
