CJ Madden was a 4-star prospect and impact Edge recruit coming out of high school. He spent two seasons in Kirby Smart’s Georgia program but is now on the move via the transfer portal.

Saturday evening, Madden confirmed he’s on the move to the Big Ten. He revealed a commitment to Purdue and head coach Ryan Walters on social media.

A member of the 2022 recruiting class, the 247 Sports Composite rated Madden as the No. 29 Edge prospect in the country coming out of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds but saw limited playing time in Athens.

Madden appeared in one game as a true freshman and made 7 overall appearances with just 3 tackles during the 2023 season. Moving to the Boilermakers could open the door to more playing time for Madden.

During the 2023 season — Walters’ first as a head coach — Purdue’s defense was particularly brutal. We’ll see if the arrival of Madden and other players via the transfer portal can help overhaul that unit for the Boilermakers.
