Georgia fans will remember former QB Faton Bauta as the guy who started the game against Florida back in 2015, throwing four interceptions and no touchdowns in a loss that may have sealed Mark Richt’s fate in Athens.

Bauta, the third-string quarterback at the time, then left to follow former Georgia OC Mike Bobo to Colorado State, finishing his career there.

Now, though, he’s back in college football, working as an assistant at FCS school Monmouth in New Jersey, according to a profile from OnlineAthens.com:

“I pretty much dabble in everything that revolves around Division I football,” Bauta said after a morning practice this week, three days after 2,452 fans watched a 36-19 win over Bucknell. “It’s been such a learning experience. I’m really able to see everything that goes into a practice, a game, a week, a preseason. Just being part of the behind the scenes stuff is pretty awesome.”

For now, the former Bulldog is getting his feet wet in the coaching business and is eager to see where this new job takes him:

“I’m a sponge,” said Bauta, now 24. “This is new to me and I’m just taking it all in.”

It’s good to see Bauta back in the game. We’ll see how he fares as a coach moving forward.
