Georgia RB Keith Marshall had to wait until the final round of the 2016 NFL Draft to hear his name called.

Eventually, he ended up with the Washington Redskins and, from the sound of it, has made an immediate impact. Washington’s offensive coordinator said Marshall’s speed has stood out early in training camp:

“He has that ability, when he does put that foot in the ground, he explodes through the line of scrimmage,” Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay said. “When he’s able to do that, you can feel that speed.”

Marshall had an outstanding play on Tuesday, reeling in a deep pass with one hand:

Here’s where we put in the obligatory disclaimer that everyone is a superstar this early in training camp. Marshall’s impact in Washington this season will depend on how he does in actual game situations.

To his credit, McVay included that stipulation in his praise of the former Bulldog:

“He has shown encouraging maturity for a rookie running back,” McVay said. “We’re hoping to see that translate in games.”

Currently, Marshall is listed as Washington’s No. 3 running back, behind former Florida RB Matt Jones and former Florida State RB Chris Thompson.
