Georgia fans are understandably excited to see what 5-star freshman WR George Pickens can bring to the team. The latest quote from one of Pickens’ new teammates will have the Dawgs faithful even more excited.

“He’s got really big, strong hands,” UGA safety Richard LeCounte said of Pickens. “Reminds you of an A.J. Green with his skill-set to adjust to the ball in the air.”

While some UGA fans may be saying “pump the brakes” on comparing anyone to Green, it’s important to remember LeCounte is presumably making the comparison based on what he’s seen watching Green as a star receiver in the NFL. It’s not the same as a coach or even analyst making the comparison, but it’s still high praise for a freshman wide receiver.

In each of his three seasons at Georgia, Green was recognized with All-SEC honors (Freshman of the Year 2008; All-SEC 2009, 2010). Green was voted a first-team All-American in 2009 and ’10.

In a Bulldogs receiving corps looking for people to step up this fall, Pickens will likely have the opportunities to establish himself as the conference’s Freshman of the Year. It’s a tall order, but there’s a reason Pickens was a 5-star recruit and is already generating hype in Athens.
