Georgia defense was motivated by hearing Benny Snell compared to Bulldogs legend
Benny Snell Jr. is making a name for himself as one of the all-time great running backs not only at Kentucky, but in the SEC. He recently joined an exclusive club of SEC greats to rush for 1,000 yards in three seasons. Earlier in the year, he joined a group of SEC legends in rushing for his 40th touchdown before his senior season.
While it’s fair to talk about Snell as one of the conference’s all-time greats, Georgia players were sensitive about hearing his name linked to one Bulldogs legend. On Monday, UGA S J.R. Reed told reporters that the Dawgs defense wanted to make it clear that Snell is not another Herschel Walker.
“We understood that Benny Snell was maybe the next Herschel Walker or something like that,” Reed said. “We wanted to go out and prove that there’s only one Herschel.”
Last month, Paul Finebaum posed the question to his Twitter followers, “Is Benny Snell better than Herschel Walker?” The responses were about what you would expect.
Bulldog safety J.R. Reed on the job the defense did against Benny Snell: “We understood that Benny Snell was maybe the next Herschel Walker or something like that. We wanted to go out and prove that there’s only one Herschel.”
