Georgia’s defensive line depth will be tested even more following this news.

Redshirt sophomore Chris Barnes has announced his decision to leave the program on his Instagram account. He now joins offensive lineman Pat Allen and linebacker Jaleel Laguins as Bulldogs that have left the program via transfer over the previous two weeks.

Barnes arrived in Athens as an offensive lineman but was switched to the defensive side of the ball this spring to help aid the Bulldogs’ issues on the defensive line. He arrived in Athens rated as a three-star member of the 2016 recruiting class.

“He’s still learning where to line up. I’ll be honest with you. We are so low numbers on the defensive line, we are extremely struggling on the defensive line from a depth standpoint,” Kirby Smart said on Barnes’ back in the spring. “We have so many guys banged up with injuries, but Chris has been over there.”

To help bolster the DL depth on the roster, the Bulldogs did sign five defensive linemen in the 2018 recruiting class — Brenton Cox, Devonte Wyatt from the junior college ranks, Azeez Ojulari, Jordan Davis, and Tramel Walthour.

Here is his Instagram post announcing the news:

God has a plan for me🙏🏾🙏🏾
