Georgia landed a key commitment in the transfer portal on Friday evening.

Jake Pope, formerly a defensive back for the Crimson Tide, announced his decision to transfer to the Bulldogs.

“Comin’ home!!! Committed,” Pope declared.

Pope was originally a 4-star recruit, per the 247Sports Composite ranking, out of Buford High School in Buford, GA. The defensive back was the No. 32 safety and the No. 37 prospect out of Georgia in the 2022 class. The DB was originally recruited by the LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, and Ohio State Buckeyes, among others.

As a freshman in 2022, Pope did not see action and was redshirted. In 2023, Pope saw action in 12 games for the Tide, mainly playing on special teams. Pope becomes the 6th player to commit to the Bulldogs via the transfer portal this offseason.

Pope joins defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod as the additions to the defensive side of the ball. On offense, London Humphreys, Trevor Etienne, Michael Jackson III, and Colbie Young have been added thus far.

Pope will have 3 years of eligibility remaining as he returns to his home state.
