Georgia is bringing a familiar face back to Athens.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, James Coley is returning to UGA as the Bulldogs’ new wide receivers coach. He fills the spot opened up by Bryan McClendon’s departure for an opportunity with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Coley was on Smart’s initial staff as wide receivers coach in 2016. He held the position through the 2017 season.

In 2018, Coley was named Georgia’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He was the sole OC for 2019, while continuing to coach Bulldog quarterbacks.

Coley was relieved of offensive coordinator duties after the 2019 season. He sought a new opportunity and a change of scenery, joining Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M staff.

Coley spent four seasons at Texas A&M. He worked with Aggie wide receivers and tight ends, adding a co-OC title in 2022.

With the coaching change at Texas A&M, Coley was on the move this offseason. He had joined Shane Beamer’s South Carolina staff as wide receivers coach in January.
