Georgia’s late run lifted the Bulldogs to an SEC Tournament victory over Mizzou.

The Tigers, who did not defeat an SEC team this season, came out strong in the 2nd half. Mizzou had its largest lead of the game, 43-35, with 14:07 to go.

With 3:38 to go, a Sean East II layup extended MU’s lead to 59-52 with 3:38 to go. Mizzou went cold at the wrong time, failing to score again in the game.

The Tigers missed their last 7 field-goal attempts as Georgia notched a 12-0 run, its largest of the game. UGA’s Justin Hill put the Bulldogs up 60-59 when he made a 3-pointer with 1:43 to go in the game.

Mizzou missed 4 field-goal attempts while trailing 60-59. Hill returned to the line with 15 seconds to go and made it 62-59. MU’s Noah Carter got a good look from 3-point range to tie, but his shot did not fall.

Georgia’s Blue Cain got the rebound and was promptly fouled, making 2 free throws to extend the lead to 64-59, the game’s final score.

Cain was the game’s high scorer with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, including 5 3-pointers with 2 free throws. Mizzou was led by Nick Honor’s 14 points with Connor Vanover posting a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UGA coach Mike White was mindful of Georgia being in a tournament. Cain played the most with 31 minutes. Russel Tchewa was the only other Bulldog to play 30 minutes in the game.

Georgia moves on to face familiar foe

By beating Mizzou, UGA advances to play No. 11-seed Florida in the second round of the conference tournament.

The Bulldogs have faced the Gators, White’s former team, twice this season.

Georgia rallied to force overtime on Jan. 27 in Gainesville, but ultimately fell 102-98. UF and UGA played another tight game in Athens on Feb. 17. Florida completed the regular-season sweep with an 88-82 road win.

Todd Golden’s Gators enter the SEC Tournament having lost 2 of their last 3 games, road contests to South Carolina and Vanderbilt. At time of publication, Florida is favored by 8 points in Thursday’s game at DraftKings.

Thursday’s Georgia-Florida game wraps up the second round of the SEC Tournament. It is set for 25 minutes after the completion of the Texas A&M-Ole Miss game, which tips at 7 p.m. ET. All of Thursday’s action is airing on the SEC Network.
