Georgia retains NFL Draft record following 2024 selections
Georgia is holding onto one record that Kirby Smart’s program holds in relation to the NFL Draft.
Heading into the 2023 college football season, Jim Harbaugh was vocally bullish about his roster at Michigan. In fact, Harbaugh proclaimed his Wolverines had the talent to challenge Georgia’s record for players taken in a single draft.
The Bulldogs set that record in 2022 when Smart’s program produced 15 overall selections coming off a national championship. Georgia produced 5 first-round picks in 2022, including the No. 1 overall pick in Travon Walker who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Michigan did not break the record, and the Wolverines never came close to the kind of 1st-round talent that Georgia produced in 2022. Quarterback JJ McCarthy was the only 1st-round pick from Michigan’s 15-0 national title team, and Michigan had just 3 players selected in the first 2 rounds with defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and cornerback Mike Sainristil coming off the board in Friday’s 2nd round.

In the end, Michigan WR Cornelius Johnson was the final player from the Wolverines to be selected with the 253rd pick. A fitting move considering Johnson was selected by Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers in the 7th round.
The selection of Johnson gave Michigan 13 players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, falling short of the overall record. In fact, Georgia holds the overall record with 15 picks while LSU (2020) and Ohio State (2004) are tied for 2nd with 14 players taken in a single draft.
Random humpy notes about the NFL draft circa Kirby Smart
The numbers are mind boggling:
8 NFL drafts – 63 players drafted (just 1 his first year, the rest were too busy buying into their new HBC)
56 players drafted in the 6 years known as the TP era
15 in 1 draft / 42 in the last 4 drafts
Compare to 85 total drafted in 15 years for CMR…
No wonder Saban retired…
Saban will always be Kirby’s Daddy
Too bad he’s no longer your coach though
You’re right, too bad…
But now now Deboer will be Kirby’s step daddy for years to come
When you compare Kirby Smart and Saban at the same points in their careers Kirby is so far ahead of Saban it’s laughable.
Kirby was 10x better player than Saban
Kirby was 10x better assistant coach and coordinator than Saban
Kirby has 2 NC’s in his first 7 years as a HC, Saban didn’t win his first until his 11th year as a HC
etc etc etc
And yet he’s 1-5 against Saban.
10X. You spew big nonsense TDOW. Take up knitting and leave college football alone.
Kirby has accomplished more without Backpedaling Has Been Fragile Nicky, than Boohoo Bama has accomplished without Kirby…. That about settles this discussion…HAHA!
With the exception that the puppies can’t beat Bama but keep pounding that chest. The ONLY thing Kirby is better at is killing players! LMAO
Leg. Let me help you out. Saban is 72. He has a bucket load of NCs. He leaves totally dominating Smart. So Saban went out on his on terms.
How many did Georgia have drafted this year. I counted 8 but didn’t check it closely. I did more of a quick scan.
9 players entered, 8 were drafted and 1 signed UDFA. The other eligible players bought in to coming back for hopefully another natty run this year…Kirby has smashed every recruiting record that Saban once owned…except total number on players drafted in a college coaching career, because, uh, well, you know luvie…Kirby has only been around for 8 years, as opposed to that other guy that recently called it quits…
You mean Daddy? It’s ok hump you can say it we all know anyways!
Leg when you and others try to diminish what Nick Saban accomplished it is a bad look on you. Makes you look college football dumb and look like a sour puss.
Here’s my favorite Kirby record. 1-5 record against Bama in those 8 years. Impressive.
By all means luvie…point out the diminishing part. FACT: Kirby smashed the recruiting records Saban set. If you find that diminishing may want to toughen up that pachydermian rawhide my friend.
Here’s my favorite part Standard…it will never become 1-6. It will always be 2 recognized natties to 1. And it will always be that the reason Nick retired is because he was tired of trying to keep up with Kirby…who knows, if it weren’t for Kirby, Saban probably would have stuck around and became the John Wooden of football…but alas, not every great coach gets to go out on top.
Tough look for Kirby to finish 1-5 against his master. As for Bama, Kirby will be 1-6 this coming season.
Leg. Hopefully you and you’re Jawga fans will get better over time. The Saban but hurt syndrome has hit some of you critters pretty bad. You just have to keep a stiff upper lip and get through it. You can do it Leg.
Michigan should have had 2-3 more guys easily drafted but oh well. Knew SDS had the article typed up after Harbaugh made those comments.
All the gum flapping from the puppy fans is hilarious! You have been Bama’s bi tch for the last 15 years and you don’t even have an argument to refute it that’s what’s so dang funny. Keep flapping those cock holsters though it’s very entertaining!
I’m pretty sure the pups have been no one’s beotch 2 of the last 3 years. Congrats on that 2017 natty by the way.
Preciate that hump and congrats to you on that 1980 Natty, well deserved! And yes you have been, are, and will continue to be Bama’s beotch. What are the puppies like 1-7 or something vs Bama in the last 15 years? Yep that’s beotch material.
The whining, moaning and gnashing of teeth is not a good look for you Jawga peoples that call yourself a “Man”. Tighten it up Jawga fans. Be big boys. No excuses. Just play the games without the crying and complaining.
