The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award is named after former Alabama and Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander. This year’s award has a lot of contenders and one of them is Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

Bowers had a huge impact on this team and has become one of the best players in the country. Bowers on the season had 791 yards and 11 touchdowns.

That also included 139 yards and 1 touchdown in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama. Others on this list include Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud and running back TreVeyon Henderson along with Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen and Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

The winner of the award will be unveiled Jan. 10, 2022. The formal presentations of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 18, 2022.

Bowers was a USA Today, ESPN and The Athletic First Team All-American and was the SEC Freshman of the Year in his first year with the Bulldogs. The Mackey Award semifinalist has tied the UGA record for receiving touchdowns in a season (Terrence Edwards, 2002).
