Former Georgia QB Jacob Eason announced on Tuesday that he was transferring to Washington, a move that wasn’t unexpected after he lost his starting job to Jake Fromm in 2017.

Eason, a former 5-star recruit, is a Washington native, so playing for the Huskies will bring him closer to home.

However, it’s not just proximity to home that caused Eason to choose Washington. Eason said he appreciated a message Washington coach Chris Petersen told him back during his recruitment, and it stuck with him during his time at Georgia (via 247Sports):

“When I was being recruited out of high school, Coach Pete always said, if I ever needed to or had the opportunity to come home, he would have a place for me,” said Eason. “That was something he told me. When it was going down at Georgia, I had that in the back of my mind.”

Eason will have to sit out the 2018 season, per NCAA transfer rules, but Petersen is getting a talented quarterback who will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs did what they had to do when faced with a tough decision at quarterback, so there are certainly no hard feelings when it comes to Eason in Athens.
