Georgia K Rodrigo Blankenship earned freshman All-America honors last season, but that doesn’t mean his position is safe heading into the 2017 season.

The Bulldogs added Wofford transfer David Marvin this offseason and he’s been kicking well this summer, but so has Blankenship.

After Saturday’s scrimmage, coach Kirby Smart told 247Sports that he’s not ready to make a decision on field-goal kicking yet, but added that Blankenship has the edge in kickoffs right now:

“The field goal kicking, it’s tight, and the kicking off,” Smart said. “I will say this: Rod kicked off really good today, and the field goal kicking is really tight. And it’ll probably be decided within this week. But Rod’s kicking off real well.”

When it comes to the punting job, Smart said Cameron Nizialek has the edge at the moment:

“Punter competition is leaning more and more towards (Cameron Nizialek). He’s done a really good job. (Marshall Long has) done well too but I don’t think Marshall’s past the injury completely. He’s still coming back from that,” Smart said.

Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like the Bulldogs are getting close to naming their starting kicker and punter for the 2017 season.
