On Monday, former 5-star recruit Justin Fields — a dual-threat quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs — made the somewhat surprising decision to transfer.

That move became official on Tuesday, as Fields’ name was added to the NCAA Transfer Portal, meaning other teams can now contact him.

Also on Tuesday, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit spoke with DawgNation, saying he’s not surprised the talented freshman is heading elsewhere:

“I wondered how Justin Fields was doing behind the scenes,” Herbsteit told DawgNation in an exclusive interview on Tuesday morning. “I haven’t spoken with him, I don’t know specifically what went on behind the situation.

“But I’m not surprised— I’m more surprised he signed at Georgia than I am he’s transferring.”

Fields was used sparingly behind starter Jake Fromm this year, mostly in running situations.

Where Fields ends up next remains to be seen, but he’ll be a highly sought-after transfer.
