Lorenzo Carter is out to prove he can be a better pass-rusher than his numbers at Georgia indicate (14 total sacks in a four-year, 54-game career). Early reports from his first NFL training camp indicate he’s off to a good start.

After being drafted, Carter expressed the belief that playing in a 3-4 scheme could be an ideal fit for him as a pass-rusher. He seems to be making quite an impression at New York Giants camp.

“Connor Barwin and Lorenzo Carter are wearing out the second-team offensive line on the edges,” USAToday beat reporter Art Stapleton tweeted Saturday from practice.

Obviously, the real test will be how Carter performs against starting offensive lines, but the former 5-star recruit’s raw talent is evident.

“Great pressure up the middle from Lorenzo Carter leads to pick for Donte Deayon in 2nd team 11s,” Stapleton tweeted. “No denying Carter’s explosiveness and quick first step. Polish will be key to impact.”

This spring, Carter signed a four-year rookie contract which will make him over $4 million in total. It could prove to be a bargain for the Giants if Carter becomes a polished pass-rusher with NFL coaching.
