Georgia entered the Sugar Bowl as nearly a two-touchdown favorite against Texas but the only thing saving the Bulldogs from losing the final game of their season by two touchdowns was a score with 14 seconds remaining in the game.

So what happened?

Did Georgia lack focus after losing the SEC Championship Game to Alabama, which eliminated the team from Playoff contention? The team’s focus wasn’t an issue entering the game, according to Mecole Hardman.

“I wouldn’t say we weren’t focused, I think we just came out flat. Came out not enough energy,” Hardman said after the game. “I don’t know, we could have come out and played a whole lot better than we did. That’s not this Georgia team, that’s not the standard we play to but Texas is a great team, came out and played their best game and it was better than our game today.”

Hardman only had one catch and three receiving yards in the contest but he did score on his lone reception. The UGA receiver also returned one kick for 28 yards against Texas.

With Georgia’s season now officially over, the big question looming for Hardman will be his status for next season. Will he return for one final season in Athens or declare for the 2019 NFL Draft?

Here’s what he said to say when asked if he had come to a decision.

“Nah, I’m just trying to worry about this, get thru this with my brothers right now,” Hardman answered. “I got a week to decide that.”

It’s unclear which way Hardman may be leaning when it comes to his decision but if he factors in his and his team’s performance in the final game of the season, there’s a good chance he returns to finish his Bulldog career on a better note.
