The Georgia Bulldogs suffered perhaps the biggest injury in the SEC this weekend when starting QB Jacob Eason went down with a knee injury against Appalachian State.

Now, heading into next weekend’s game at Notre Dame, the Bulldogs will turn to true freshman QB Jake Fromm.

ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum said not having Eason starting puts the Bulldogs at a major disadvantage on Saturday (via 247Sports):

“That’s a big blow,” Finebaum said. “His replacement, Jake Fromm, was playing high school football a year ago. He’s very talented. But Eason won big games last year. He won two on the final possession.”

Eason led game-winning drives against both Missouri and Kentucky last year, and Finebaum says that experience would help the Bulldogs in South Bend:

“You need that type of experience to go to a place like Notre Dame,” Finebaum said. “The advantage shifts, pretty dramatically I think, to the Irish in this game.”

What Finebaum seems to be overlooking is that Eason was a true freshman when he led those comebacks, and the come-from-behind win against Missouri came on the road in only his second start.

Perhaps Fromm should be given the benefit of the doubt heading into his second college game, too.
