Though defensive tackles have gotten more involved in rushing opposing quarterbacks in recent years, their primary job is still to stop the run.

Not many players in the country were better than Georgia DT Trenton Thompson last season. In fact, according to Pro Football Focus, Thompson stopped 12.3 percent of the running plays he was on the field for:

Thompson, to his credit, also recorded five sacks, including three in the Bulldogs’ Liberty Bowl victory over TCU.

Though he’s been absent from the program this spring, he’s expected to rejoin the team over the summer and play a key part along Georgia’s defensive line this fall.
