Rece Davis spoke about the impact of Brock Bowers’ injury while on the College GameDay podcast on Monday.

Bowers is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks after undergoing tightrope surgery on his injured ankle. He’s been one of the best playmakers in all college football this season and was receiving Heisman Trophy consideration before he went down with this injury.

But Davis believes Bowers’ absence from the lineup could ultimately benefit Georgia later in the season — if other playmakers are able to emerge as significant contributors in the offense.

“When they come out on the other side and he returns hopefully to full health … they might have developed other weapons,” Davis said. “Because while it has been great for Carson Beck to have Brock Bowers as a security blanket, with him not being there, he will have to find someone else.

“And then maybe when they’re playing in the SEC Championship Game … they might have a couple. It’s not a good thing for sure because that dude is a stud and the centerpiece of their offense. But I’m not panicked about what they have coming up.”

Bowers has 41 catches for 567 yards and 4 touchdowns so far this season, which leads Georgia in all three categories.

Davis said he believes Georgia has enough offensive talent to get through the next few weeks without Bowers. The Bulldogs will likely be heavily favored in each of their remaining contests, with the possible exception of their road trip to Tennessee on Nov. 18.

Georgia will have to hope that Bowers can get healthy in time for another run at the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.
