Michael Chigbu’s football career at Georgia may be over.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart told reporters Thursday that Chigbu is considering retiring from the sport due to recent injury issues. Chigbu, a wide receiver, has one season of football eligibility remaining. A product of Holy Cross in New Orleans, Chigbu began his UGA career in 2015 when he recorded four catches for 28 yards. In 2016, he appeared in 10 games and made six starts, logging nine receptions for 88 yards. Chigbu appeared in six games last season, but did not make a catch or carry the football.

Chigbu, who made the 2017 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, could potentially keep his scholarship as a UGA student without counting toward the 85 scholarship limit for the football team if his injury is deemed a medical disqualification.
