Stetson Bennett’s roster status with the Los Angeles Rams has changed, and his head coach is not offering details on the situation.

The Rams announced Bennett’s placement on the non-football injury list Wednesday afternoon. According to Rams Wire, the only detail offered by head coach Sean McVay is that the current injury is not connected to the shoulder injury that kept Bennett from being active in Week 1.

“No, and that’s all I’m going to say and I really hope that you can please respect my wishes in regards to keeping that in-house,” McVay said when asked if it was related to the shoulder injury. “I understand you have a job to do, but there’s certain things that I think are a little bit bigger and more important and out of respect for the particulars and specifics, want to be able to keep it in-house and that’s where I’d like to leave it, please.”

Bennett’s NFI status indicates he was not injured during a Rams practice or in the team facility. The Rams selected Bennett No. 128 overall in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Georgia quarterback impressed in his preseason debut, but finished as Pro Football Focus’ lowest-graded QB in preseason action.

Bennett was slated to be the Rams’ backup quarterback to starter Matthew Stafford. The club has turned to Brett Rypien in Bennett’s absence.

Hopefully, Bennett can get healthy and back on the field.
