Todd Gurley may have been cut in Los Angeles so the Rams could avoid paying the running back a $10 million roster bonus but that doesn’t mean the team won’t be forced to pay the former Georgia standout in 2020.

In fact, the Rams will be paying Gurley more to suit up for Atlanta than the Falcons will be after the running back signed with the team on Friday.

The Falcons will sign up for that deal every chance they can get.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Gurley is set to make $7.5 million from the Rams next season while the Falcons will pay the running back $6 million. If these figures are accurate, Gurley will rank among the NFL’s top three running backs.

It’s not often a team gets the opportunity to land a potential All-Pro performer in the prime of his playing career, Gurley has played in 14 or more games in his previous four seasons, in free agency but that’s what the Falcons managed to do this week.

So far in his NFL career, Gurley has rushed for 5,404 yards and 58 touchdowns in addition to catching 218 passes for 2,090 yards during his time with the Rams. Now that he’s returning to the state of Georgia, Gurley likely has a chip on his shoulder and will have something to prove on the field next season.
