The Georgia Bulldogs have opened their wallets to hire Tom Crean as their new head coach, giving him a six-year contract worth $3.2 million a year.

On Friday, he gave his introductory press conference, and it was a long and passionate one, going on for more than 20 minutes before he started taking questions from the assembled media.

From his offensive and defensive strategies to his plans for a Midnight Madness event to his three goals for the program, here’s what Crean had to say on Friday afternoon in Athens:

  • “This door opened, and it opened at a time when there were other doors. But this door was in a class by itself because of what can be done here. You start thinking about the passion and energy and how people think about a program like this, I cannot wait to join that.”
  • “We graduated every senior that used their eligibility at Indiana. It all matters. There will be balance. We will work for completeness.”
  • “This is a world-class university, that is universally known for what they’re about. Sports are a huge part of that. There’s a passion and a pride that I’m very much looking forward to being a part of.”
  • “We’re going to build a Midnight Madness or a Georgia Madness or whatever we’ll call it. We’ll build on what has already happened here and move it forward to what will happen here.”
  • “My respect for Mark Fox has always been high, and that’s not going to change. I hope there are plenty of opportunities to credit him for bringing fine people in here. This program was run with integrity, it was run with great standards and it was run with discipline.”
  • “We’re going to shoot the three. Our big men need to be able to shoot threes and handle the ball.”
  • “There is a great place for more pressure defense, especially three-quarter pressure.”
  • “They’re going to have to match my energy and my staff’s energy, and we’ll hold them to it. There can be no weak points in your career or in your life.”
  • “I hope people will see three things from this program everyday. Number one, there’s going to be an energy. Number two, we’re going to have that player development mindset. And the last thing is, there’s no doubt we’ve got to recruit.”
