Tom Crean is expected to be dismissed as Georgia’s head coach now that the Bulldogs’ season is over. No. 14-seed UGA fell to No. 11-seed Vanderbilt in an 86-51 blowout on Wednesday night in the SEC Tournament.

Before Georgia took the court in Tampa, it was reported that Crean would not be back to coach the Dawgs for the 2022-23 season. After the Vandy game, Crean was asked if he thought the team was distracted by the situation.

“I’m not sure. We didn’t play well. I’m not sure. We just didn’t play well,” Crean told reporters. “We played hard, but then we didn’t play well, and there were times it didn’t look like we played very hard. I’m not certain on that. I’m really not, but I think us not making baskets had a lot more to do with that than anything else, unfortunately.”

Georgia made 14-of-47 field-goal attempts from the floor on Wednesday night, making just 4-of-22 in the first half. The Bulldogs trailed 35-14 at the half. While the 21-point deficit at the half didn’t quite become 42 points, UGA wasn’t able to cut into VU’s lead, either.

The loss drops Crean’s record to 47-75 over 4 seasons at Georgia. The Dawgs were 6-26 overall in 2021-22, going 1-17 in regular-season SEC play. Crean was asked if he addressed the reports with his players.

“Anything with my situation, it just has to go to the athletic department, right?” Crean said. “That’s not a thing that I spend a lot of time on, and I just coach my team every day. That’s where my focus is.”
