Trevor Etienne is making the wrong kind of headlines in his first spring at Georgia. The UGA running back, a transfer from rival Florida, was arrested Saturday morning on multiple driving charges, including DUI.

Athens-Clarke County records show Etienne was booked at 4:35 a.m. and released on bond at 5:27 a.m. Saturday. He is charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield.

Etienne’s DUI charge is labeled “DUI – alcohol – less safe.” Under Georgia law, drivers can receive DUI less safe charges even if their blood alcohol content is below .08 if the officer finds the driver to be driving impaired.

Dawg Nation notes that Etienne is the first Bulldog player to be arrested this offseason. Last offseason, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Jalen Carter, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and De’Nylon Morrissette all faced driving-related arrests. In January 2023, offensive lineman Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy tragically lost their lives in an auto accident.

Etienne’s transfer from Florida to Georgia was one of the more high-profile transfer stories of the most recent portal cycle. In 2 seasons at UF, Etienne played in 24 games, logging 249 carries for 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 30 catches for 238 yards and 1 score.

In Jacksonville, Eitenne had 11 carries for 53 yards and 1 touchdown against Georgia in 2022. In last year’s game, he rushed 7 times for 42 yards. UGA won those games 42-20 and 43-20.

Etienne arrived at Georgia expected to become the team’s leading running back for the 2024 campaign. The Bulldogs currently 6 practices into the spring session, which allows for 15 practices.

Many fans have been looking forward to getting their first look at Etienne in red and black at Georgia’s upcoming spring game. G-Day is set for Saturday, April 13. The game will kick off at 1 p.m. ET. Fans who cannot make it to Athens will be able to watch the scrimmage via streaming platforms SEC Network+ and ESPN+.

Update:

“We are aware of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” Steven Drummond, Georgia executive associate AD for strategic communications said in a released statement. “This is a pending legal matter and we will not have further comment at this time.”
