Liam Coen is a candidate for another NFL position.

After previously being linked to the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator position, Coen is now reportedly interviewing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times notes that the Bucs are interested in reuniting Coen with QB Baker Mayfield. Coen was the Los Angeles Rams OC in 2022 when Mayfield appeared in five games, making four starts.

Coen, 38, has bounced back and forth between the NFL and college over the last few years. After coaching at small colleges from 2010-17, Coen got an opportunity with the Rams in 2018. Mark Stoops tabbed Coen as Kentucky’s OC and quarterbacks coach for the 2021 season, in which Will Levis shined.

Coen took the Rams OC job for the 2022 season. He returned to UK in 2023.

The Rams were 5-12 in the 2022 season. While Mayfield had a QB record of 1-3 in four starts, he showed some bright spots. Mayfield completed 63.6% of his passes in Coen’s offense, throwing for 850 yards (6.6 yards per attempt) and a 4-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Mayfield is coming off his most productive professional season. In his first season with the Bucs, Mayfield posted career highs in completion percentage (64.3), passing yards (4,044) and touchdowns (28).
