All in all, it was a successful night for Mark Stoops’ Kentucky program. The team survived the evening without a single major injury, which is always the No. 1 goal of the spring game, and may have found the perfect complement at running back to starter Benny Snell.

Immediately after the game, Stoops was asked to share his comments following the strong performance from running back Sihiem King. The junior rushed 19 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game. Judging by the Kentucky coach’s comments, he wasn’t surprised.

“He’s been good all spring,” Stoops said. “He really gives us a nice change of pace. With Benny, we have the big strong guy, Sihiem is a slasher, he’s electric in the open field — as you saw tonight. He’s a good change up.”

Stoops was then asked about his overall impressions of the game.

“I was pleased. I was pleased with their effort this entire spring,” Stoops continued. “I felt like tonight was another good effort. We’re getting there, fundamentally we are better. There are fewer question marks on this team, so I’m pleased.”

Lastly, Stoops was asked about the struggles from his offense, particularly quarterback Stephen Johnson. The senior started the game hot, completing six of eight throws in the first quarter but finished the game 8 of 18 for 106 yards and an interception.

“We’ll be fine. We have a lot of confidence in Stephen and our offense,” Stoops said. “We were very basic tonight but we feel good. Again, it starts up front being physical and being able to run the ball, play-action off of that.”

The standout quarterback from the game was redshirt freshman Gunnar Hoak, who completed 16 of 24 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Barker, the team’s starting quarterback heading into the 2016 season, did not play in the game. Barker was sat for precautionary measures while he recovers from last season’s back injury that cost him the majority of the season.
