This time last week, there was a war of words between Will Wade and LSU that played out publicly via public statements released by representatives of both parties leading up to the 2019 SEC Tournament.

Wade called for LSU to allow him to return and coach his team in the postseason while the school announced it would not until he came in and answered questions with the NCAA present during the interview. Of course, the Tigers went into the SEC Tournament without Wade and lost in their first game from Nashville. LSU has since bounced back and won its first-round NCAA Tournament game against Yale on Thursday.

Following the first-round game from Jacksonville, LSU AD Joe Alleva spoke with college basketball insider Jeff Goodman of Stadium regarding the status of Wade.

“I don’t know how deep this goes,” Alleva said following LSU’s victory over Yale. “That’s the problem, and Will’s refused to talk to us. That’s the hardest part for me.”

Following the exchange of released statements last week leading up to the 2019 SEC Tournament, LSU made it clear Wade has a standing offer to meet with his employer. Based on what Alleva said on Thursday, that offer still stands.

“I wish he’d come in and just tell the truth. Just tell me what went on,” Alleva said. “I can handle the truth even if it’s bad.”

LSU freshman Javante Smart was also at one point held out of action but he was cleared to return to the court after taking part in LSU’s investigation into the allegations stemming from the Yahoo! Sports report that landed Wade on an indefinite suspension.
