UCF will have another chance to defeat an SEC team this bowl season, and one national college football writer thinks the Knights will do just that.

Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press released his bowl picks Wednesday, and his projections included a UCF win against No. 11 LSU in the Fiesta Bowl. Russo chose the No. 8 Knights to win 31-24, which would give them back-to-back undefeated seasons and add fuel to their outrage at being left out of the College Football Playoff.

“The Knights have no interest in being lovable underdogs,” Russo writes. “Expect another offseason of banners and proclamations from UCF if it caps a second straight unbeaten season with another victory against an SEC power.”

UCF beat Auburn 34-27 in last season’s Peach Bowl to complete a 13-0 season. Not long after Alabama won the College Football Playoff, the Knights claimed a national championship by virtue of their perfect record.

Russo is almost surely correct that UCF would once again proclaim itself national champion, especially after beating another SEC power. But the Tigers can stop that from happening when they square off with the Knights on New Year’s Day.
