LSU head coach Brian Kelly opted to turn to the professional ranks for his defensive coordinator hire. Matt House, who is in his 3rd season as the Kansas City Chiefs’ linebackers coach, will head to Baton Rouge once the season ends for the playoff-bound Chiefs.

Of course, it’s not House’s first college job, and not his first time in the SEC, as he was with Kentucky for 3 seasons. But he will be part of Kelly’s initial staff in the Bayou State as the Tigers have gone just 11-12 in the 2 seasons since their historic 2019 campaign.

On Thursday, the details of House’s contract were reported by The Advocate LSU beat writer Wilson Alexander, and it is for 3 years and $5.7 million. House will make $1.8 million in 2022 and see his salary rise $100,000 in the following 2 years:

In 2021, LSU ranked in the bottom half of the conference in many major key defensive stats. House’s priority will be reversing that trend and boosting the team’s fortunes on that side of the ball.
