LSU’s training camp is underway in Baton Rouge and while Tiger fans across the state are excited, it doesn’t appear there is anyone in Louisiana as fired up for the upcoming college football season as Ed Orgeron.

The leader of the LSU program made a Tuesday morning appearance on ESPN Baton Rouge 104.5 FM program “Off the Bench” to discuss the latest update with his Tigers and the two areas of the team that really had Orgeron going where the offensive line and the team’s running game early in camp.

While the interior of the team’s offensive line appears to be cemented heading into the season, the same can not be said for the tackles. When asked about the question marks regarding LSU’s offensive tackles, Orgeron claimed those players have taken the biggest strides early in camp.

“So far, T-Bob, the most improved unit on the field,” Orgeron said on the air. “I’m so fired up about the way our offensive line is playing… The tackles are the ones that have made the most improvement.”

While the passing game and Joe Burrow have been hyped up all offseason, Orgeron was eager to note LSU’s running game should be dangerous utilizing the program’s new offensive system.

“[The running game has] really been outstanding. Nine-on-seven, we’ve had three competitions of nine-on-seven, the offense has won two out of three,” Coach O noted. “We are running the quarterback more, we have an excellent scheme but the blocking of the offensive line has been fantastic. [Offensive line coach] James Cragg was here all summer working with his group as much as he can, I gotta give him a lot of credit, he’s got this unit going very well right now.”

The coach appeared to drop a bombshell during the show, quickly mentioning that K’Lavon Chaisson and Grant Delpit were both out due to injuries before quickly moving on. However, when asked a follow-up on the status of two of LSU’s best defenders, Coach O said their injuries were not serious.

“Nothing to be concerned with, nothing for a long time, just minor camp injuries, those guys will be fine,” Orgeron commented.

Finally, on LSU’s unenviable task of replacing Devin White, Orgeron believes one player has stepped up and embraced that challenge.

“I don’t know if we have a Devin White, I can’t tell you that but I will say this, Michael Divinity was one of the best moves we ever made,” Orgeron said. “He is having a great camp, he is making plays, he is a natural leader.”
