Greg McElroy had harsh criticism for LSU following a 55-49 loss to Ole Miss on Saturday.

The Tigers were absolutely gashed defensively, giving up 706 yards of total offense. The Rebels ended the day with 317 rushing yards on 49 carries, while Jaxson Dart threw for 389 yards. A pair of receivers – Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins – each had over 100 yards receiving.

McElroy, on his “Always College Football” podcast on Sunday, certainly didn’t hold anything back regarding his opinion of the Tigers’ defensive showing.

“That was one of the most pathetic displays of defensive football I think I’ve ever seen,” he said. “They’re throwing hitches and guys are making guys miss. It’s not like these are some advanced routes. It’s not like this is some kind of chaotic offensive scheme that’s impossible to defend.”

McElroy stated that while Ole Miss’s calling card certainly isn’t a stout defense, LSU should have delivered in a much better fashion.

“LSU was terrible on defense. So was Ole Miss, but I’ve come to expect that at times from Ole Miss. I have not come to expect that from LSU,” he said.
