When the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted at Leonard Fournette at No. 4 overall, comparisons were instantly made to last year’s No. 4, Ezekiel Elliott. In Dallas, Elliott took over the workhorse running back role on the Cowboys and gave the team’s offense an instant boost, rushing for a league-leading 1,631 yards.

Jacksonville is desperate to see its running game improve in 2017. Last season, the Jaguars posted a league-low of 92.1 yards per game. While Jacksonville would love to see Fournette have an Elliott-like impact on the offense, coach Doug Marrone says it’s not a given that the former LSU ball-carrier will be the team’s workhorse back this fall.

“Obviously when we made the pick we were thinking about how he can be someone like that,” Marrone told ESPN’s Mike DiRocco. “Obviously he’s shown that ability, but at the same sense, when you have the team, the one thing about a team is you have to earn that. So he’s going to have to go and show that he has to do that.”

Fournette is on board with that approach, and saying he’s excited to learn from Chris Ivory and former Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon.

“My role is to do whatever the team needs or coach asks me to do,” Fournette said. “My role right now is going out there and competing and getting better right now.”
