Texas Tech transfer Jonathan Giles came to Baton Rouge with some high expectations after putting up huge numbers in the Red Raiders’ offense in 2016. After sitting out the 2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules, Giles is ready to do his part to take LSU’s passing game to another level.

Just how good can the Tigers become at tossing the pigskin? According to LSU’s new No. 7, there’s no reason LSU can’t become one of the SEC’s best in the passing game.

Here’s what Giles had to say during his media availability on Tuesday when asked about his expectations for the LSU’s passing game.

“(Offensive coordinator) Coach Ensminger has done a great job of the installment. We have three great quarterbacks, so it’s fun watching them compete… We’ve got some great receivers, I feel like we can be the best in the country in the passing game,” Giles said to reporters.

That’s a pretty bold comment considering LSU has not finished ranked higher than No. 8 in the league in passing offense since the 2013 season. Based on what Giles has seen this spring, he has confidence in his teammates on LSU’s roster.

The Tigers’ new receiver singled out teammate Dee Anderson for having the best hands on the team and offered up these additional comments on the program’s quarterbacks.

“(Myles Brennan) got a cannon. He’s an under center kind of guy, and you got a guy like Lowell (Narcisse) and Justin (McMillan) who are spread guys that like to read option, RPOs,” Giles continued. “So I feel like we have three good quarterbacks that do three different things.”

It’s only spring, but Giles is already setting the bar pretty high for the LSU offense this fall. While he may be a new face to the offense in 2018, that’s something a player honored with the No. 7 jersey is expected to do for the Tigers.
