One of the top basketball recruits in the class of 2023 has backed off his pledge to LSU, citing the firing of Will Wade.

Marvel Allen announced his decommitment from LSU in a note posted on his Twitter account Saturday:

“I committed to LSU because of my relationship with Coach Wade and Nickelberry. Thank you to the rest of the LSU coaching staff and the fans for the support they showed me throughout my time I was committed.

“Wasn’t expecting to come to this point but I will (be) decommitting from LSU and reopening my recruitment to all programs.

“I’m looking forward to finding my new home.”

Allen committed to LSU back on Jan. 15, 2022. A West Palm Beach, Florida native and Calvary Christian Academy standout, Allen is listed at 6-4, 190 pounds and rated 5-stars, the No. 2 Sunshine State product, No. 4 point guard and No. 18 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2023 on the 247Sports Composite. Allen’s recruiting profile shows 17 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss. UF and UGA have made coaching changes since Allen’s initial decision.
