Every coach feels pressure to win in the SEC, but with six head coaches entering their first full season in 2018, the conference is somewhat lacking in the hot seat discussion.

The coach feeling the most pressure to win in 2018 might be LSU’s Ed Orgeron. He was asked about all the hot seat talk Wednesday during the SEC teleconference Wednesday.

  • I love being the coach at LSU. Whatever happens outside this building, we block out the noise. I feel confident being the coach at LSU.

Orgeron and the Tigers experienced a bit of a roller coaster ride during his first full season in 2017. LSU started 3-2, but then won six of its last eight games to finish 9-4. Orgeron led the Tigers to a 6-2 mark after taking over for Les Miles in the middle of 2016, so his overall record at LSU is 15-6.

Orgeron is pinning his hopes on offense to graduate transfer quarterback Joe Burrow, who he called “poised” and “mature” on Wednesday.

  • Joe is very smart, knew that when we recruited him. It was an advantage for him that we put in a new offense because he didn’t get far behind … He’s poised, he’s consistent and he’s mature.

Burrow will be making his first college start against Miami on Sunday night.

Orgeron on Miami’s defense:

  • Joe Jackson projected 1st round pick, 10 sacks. Jackson one of the best safeties we will play. Mike Jackson is a great corner. The thing they do is force turnovers… Very aggressive defense, very impressive

Orgeron on Terrance Alexander:

  • He’s working at nickel, corner and a little at safety. We are trying different packages to see where he can help us. He is very intelligent. He will help us this year.
