Duce Chestnut is on the move again.

The LSU defensive back who joined the team for 2023 as a transfer from Syracuse announced Tuesday night that he is back in the transfer portal.

Chestnut’s entry does not come as a surprise. Earlier this month, Brian Kelly told reporters that Chestnut was one of two LSU defensive backs who would not be participating in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Chestnut appeared to decide that he would not be spending multiple seasons at LSU early into the 2023 campaign. He last played on Sept. 23 against Arkansas. By participating in only 4 games, Chestnut can take a redshirt for 2023 and maintain 2 seasons of eligibility.

Chestnut came to LSU with a promising resume. He was named a Freshman All-American by multiple outlets in 2021, when he started all 12 games for Syracuse. Chestnut recorded career-highs of 43 total tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 8 pass breakups and 3 interceptions.

In 2022, Chestnut was again a 12-game starter. He logged 40 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, 2 pass breakups and 1 interception for a touchdown.

In 4 games at LSU, Chestnut recorded 6 tackles, including 1 for loss, and 1 interception.
