McKinley was previously committed to Texas A&M. He chose not to sign with the Aggies during the Early Signing Period following the dismissal of former coach Jimbo Fisher. He also had offers from programs such as Ohio State, Oklahoma and Ole Miss, amongst others.

McKinley attends Acadiana High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 280 pounds.

With McKinley now in the fold, LSU has 29 prospects in its 2024 high school recruiting class. The group sits at No. 7 in the national rankings, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
