Good news for LSU fans as Arden Key, the team’s best returning defender, appears to be ‘ahead of schedule’ in his rehab efforts.

Following his absence last spring due to unspecified reasons, LSU announced Key had returned to the team in June. While news of his return was promising, Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron also announced at the time that Key had undergone surgery. Orgeron did not specify a timeline for Key’s return but according to the team’s leading sack artist, he is currently ahead of schedule.

Key sent out this tweet Friday announcing the news:

Despite missing the Texas A&M game last season, Key was suspended for the game, the 6-foot-6, 238-pound hybrid linebacker/defensive end managed to set LSU’s single-season sack record by registering 12 sacks as a sophomore. This offseason, Pro Football Focus rated Key as the SEC’s best overall returning player.
