Could OC Matt Canada leave LSU? Ed Orgeron is prepared if he does
By Adam Spencer
Published:
After LSU’s loss to Troy earlier this season, coach Ed Orgeron basically called out first-year OC Matt Canada, blaming the offense for the loss.
Obviously, that sort of thing isn’t what normally happens after a team loses, and it’s safe to say Canada has not forgotten how the head coach reacted.
According to reports, that could lead the talented coordinator to leave LSU to take a Group of 5 head coaching position, according to college football insider Chris Landry:
Expect LSU OC MATT CANADA to pursue GROUP OF 5 HC jobs this offseason—despite the turnaround to their season, things continue to be strained btw him and HC Ed Orgeron following their post Troy loss meeting with the AD…….

According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, Coach O would consider moving Steve Ensminger to the offensive coordinator position for the Tigers’ bowl game if Canada does leave:
O on Canada potentially leaving and the future of #LSU's offense: "I have in mind what we want in offense. If he would leave, we'd have guys like Steve Ensminger I'd consider."

Dellenger also reported that Canada was a finalist for the East Carolina opening a couple of years ago, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him land a similar job this time around.
That would leave the Tigers scrambling for a new offensive coordinator, but if that’s what does end up happening, Coach O will only have himself and the tension he created with Canada to blame.
