Brian Kelly elected to go the conservative route in attempting an extra-point after a wild finish to nearly tie the game late Sunday night for LSU against Florida State.

But the kick was blocked, and that led some, like ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum to take Kelly to task over that decision.

“LSU paid $10 million for that, Greeny,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “That was my takeaway at midnight last night, because it makes perfect sense to go for 2. He just went 99 yards, it was a perfect executed drive, and Florida State’s defense is, forget on its heels, they’re on their back. And do you want to keep playing when you’ve played that poorly? No, and you don’t want to put it in the hands of the special teams because you’ve already had 2 muffed punts. You’ve had a blocked field goal, of course you go for 2.”

Again referring to it as a conservative call, Finebaum said, “Brian, you’re not in the NFL. This is college football. Put the dagger in.”
